President's Message
I am indeed pleased to send this message for the CMA website which will provide valuable information to the members and students and also place us on the global map.
The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka was initially established as a Society in 1999 and launched in June 2000 with the technical assistance from CMA Canada, now CPA Canada and financial support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
CMA was incorporated by the Act of Parliament No.23 of 2009 and is the Professional Management Accounting Body in Sri Lanka, coming under the Ministry of Finance.
CMA received full membership of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in October 2014. IFAC is the global body for professional accountants comprised with over 175 countries in 130 countries.
The Institute provides opportunities for students to undertake a professional course in Management Accounting at an affordable price.
As a professional Management Accounting Body our main aim is to meet the growing demand for professional management accountants in the private and public sectors. It will provide skilled professionals in the field of strategic management accounting and financial accounting who could contribute to move business organizations forward.
Our aim is to develop the skills of both school leavers and university undergraduates as well as those who are employed and to provide the business and government sector with capable and progressive managers in the management accounting field.
The Institute has grown in strength during the past years and CMA is a Member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and Member of the South Asian Federations of Accountants (SAFA) comprising the Chartered and Management Accounting bodies of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives.
To pursue the advancement of the profession of Management Accountancy and to update the knowledge to meet the global trends CMA provides opportunities for members to network and advance in their career by organizing the annual conferences and regular events to meet the CPD requirements and also members are encouraged to write articles for the Bi-Annual Journal "Certified Management Accountant" which is published by CMA.
A very important aspect of a student's progress is the access to practical training. In recognition of this we have signed over 100 Memorandums of Understanding with prominent companies and audit firms. They have agreed to train our students. With this initiative, we are able to provide a long felt need to the students. They are assured of the best possible exposure to practical experience.
I trust that the information provided would benefit the members, students, prospective students, employers and the public.
I wish to thank the patrons, council members, advisory council members, staff and all those who assisted in the development of the web site in a very professional manner and adding value to our qualification through advice and activities.
