President's Message

I am indeed pleased to send this message on the launch of the “CMA Sri Lanka Web Site” which will provide valuable information to members and students and also place us on the global map.

As a non profit making, self supporting professional educational body, we are grateful to the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) which provided the initial start up funding and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) for the technical assistance in the preparation of the course curriculum, study material, and the examination structure.

As a professional Management Accounting Body our main aim is to meet the growing demand for professional management accountants in the private and public sectors.  The setting up of this institution will provide skilled professionals in the field of strategic management accounting who could contribute to move business organizations forward.

The support of CMA Canada is on going and the visit of Mr. Bob Dye, President & CEO to Sri Lanka in 2002 further strengthened our relationships.  The agreement to moderate the core exam papers will enable quality standards to be maintained and to conduct a professional development program will enhance the knowledge and skills of members.  The provision of the CMA Management Accounting Magazine free of charge to our members online through our web site is another significant benefit for our members enabling them to keep in touch with the latest developments in the global management accounting profession.

Our aim is to develop the skills of both school leavers as well as those who are employed and to provide the business and government sector with capable and progressive managers in the management accounting field.  We have also removed the barrier of Affordability or the Digital Divide.  This has opened the doors for many to pursue the “CMA Sri Lanka” Professional Management Accounting qualification and to brighten their career prospects.

I wish to thank all those who assisted in the development of the web site in a very professional manner and trust that the information provided would benefit the members, students, prospective students, employers and the public.

Prof. Lakshman R Watawala FCA, FCMA, FCMA(UK)
President
